Monthly Parent Support Group

Our monthly parent support meetings are an amazing opportunity for parents of any neurotype to learn from each other's experience in parenting neurodivergent children.
Our meetings are very relaxed, informal and free-flowing, and we host socials such as dinners and Christmas parties!
The group was originally launched outside of Family Equip way back in 2011 by one of our volunteers Debby Allen, in response to her and her family's challenging journey in obtaining support for their autistic son.
Debby was inspired by the work Family Equip were already doing, and founded this group to bring parents together. Over the years the group grew as they helped improve so many children's and parents' lives locally, and in 2024 the group merged with Family Equip and began hosting the meetings at the Bridge building in Shirley.

Lorraine and Dean Mills' Monthly Additional Needs Group

This group was also originally launched outside of Family Equip by Lorraine and Dean Mills, who have a daughter with Down's Syndrome and ADHD, and we are proud to say that this group also merged with Family Equip in 2024.
This group is a monthly stay and play session for families of mainly primary-aged children with additional needs of any kind.
Many families from Reynolds Cross and Hazel Oak school attend regularly, as well as a few children from other local SEN schools.
It’s a great place to meet other families and let your children play in a safe, non-judgmental environment. Siblings are welcome too of course!
There's a great role play area, a very small soft play, table tennis and an enclosed outside space with various ride-ons, bikes and scooters.
- The group is held at the Renewal Family Centre, B91 2JY, in the Purple Room (not at the Bridge!)
- The group meets 10am - 12
- Parking is available on-site
