Who We Are
Founded in 2004 by David Wort, Family Equip emerged from the need for consistent and meaningful support for young autistic people as well as young people with ADHD, OCD, learning disabilities and various mental health conditions in the West Midlands.
Around Family Equip exists a small community of amazing families who support each other, and we want more people to be a part of it. We welcome the families of children and teenagers with a wide range of support needs - see what we offer.
In the last 20 years we have been a trusted ally for countless families and children. David continues to lead our organisation today, and many of the young people we supported in the past now give back as volunteers, supporting new children and their parents - see Meet the Team.
You've come to the right place for meaningful support.
Getting Support - Step By Step
1. Get in Touch
Contact us by phone, email or a Facebook message and tell us a bit about your child - we will respond to you as quickly as possible.
2. Have a Chat
One of our team will be in touch to discuss possible support and arrange to meet up with you and your child, either in a public place or in your home.
3. Meet Up
Meet a couple of our team in a comfortable setting for a two-way conversation, to understand your family’s needs and determine how we can support you.
Family Equip were a real life line when no-one else would support us.
Why Family Equip?
Our Key Support Services
Therapeutic Clubs
We currently have spaces free in our clubs for young neurodivergent/disabled people. This could change so get in touch if interested!
Our clubs welcome people with a wide range of support needs, and provide a safe space to unmask, have fun and meet new people.
Family Fun Nights
At our Family Fun Nights, Family Equip warmly welcome the whole family to come together - children, siblings and parents.
Our evenings feature engaging activities, exciting games, and meaningful group discussions.
We create a welcoming space for parents of neurodivergent children and teenagers to come together, connect and share their experiences.
Through these groups we aim to create a sense of community and belonging, and to enable parents to support each other.
Individual Support
Our team provides a wealth of individual support, such as accompanying you to meetings with teachers and professionals and providing advocacy to ensure your voice is heard.
We also assist with applications for services like EHCPs and can arrange personal assistants to help individuals with additional needs thrive in their daily lives.
Trips and Socials
We regularly run trips for all our members to a whole host of destinations such as museums, activity centres and theme parks.
We also love hosting evening socials for our older members.
Workshops
We run series of three weekly workshops at the Bridge where we help a small group of young people in a particular area, such as:
- Confidence
- Overcoming anxiety
- Managing anger
- Bereavement support
