Parent Support Groups

We have two regular groups for bringing parents together.

Our aim is to allow a family to feel connected to the community through Family Equip, and no longer lost in the system.

Parent Support Group

Debby's group is an amazing opportunity for parents of any neurotype to learn from each other's experience in parenting neurodivergent children.

The meetings are very relaxed, informal and free-flowing, and Debby hosts socials such as dinners and Christmas parties.

The group was originally launched way back in 2011 by one of our volunteers Debby Allen, in response to her and her family's challenging journey in obtaining support for their autistic son. Debby founded the group, inspired by the work Family Equip was already doing to bring parents together.

Meeting other families in the same boat, we were able to support one another and we have made friends for life.

The monthy Stay and Play is a session for families of mainly primary-aged children with additional needs of any kind. It is run by Lorraine and Dean Mills who have a daughter with Down's Syndrome and ADHD.

Many families from Reynolds Cross and Hazel Oak school attend regularly, as well as a few children from other local SEN schools.

It’s a great place to meet other families and let your children play in a safe, non-judgmental environment, and of course siblings are welcome.

There's a great role play area, a soft play, table tennis and an enclosed outside space with various ride-ons, bikes and scooters.

  • The group is held at the Renewal Family Centre, B91 2JY, in the Purple Room (not at the Bridge!)
  • The group meets 10am - 12
  • Parking is available on-site. Drive through the gates and there is a car park on the left.

The therapeutic clubs were fantastic for my children and the parent sessions were great for my mental health.
